Some people create their own storms

"Some people create their own storms,
then get upset when it rains." - Pinterest

I tend to make a pencil sketch when I start a girl but apparently I make no attempts to stick to it when I am inking.  The background is matte acrylic paint and her hair is shiny from the paint markers.  Doesn't every girl want shiny hair??

Sketching flowers in the car. . .

I'm a big fan of neutrals - my favorite colors are brown, black and gray.   However, after weeks and weeks of winter weather with all my surroundings being dull and neutral a splash of color was just what I needed!!
Started with flowers that I sketched in the car while waiting to pick up the kiddo from school - blechy and rainy outside.  I loved the black/white sketch and was tempted to leave it but the urge to play with color wouldn't be left alone!
Much brighter than what I usually do but I'm really happy with how cheery this turned out!

You are what you think about all day long. . .

The flu has hit this family hard!!  All four of us have seen the doctor in the past week.  Just today the younger son went back to school and the older son was diagnosed with the flu.  I have also been battling bronchitis for the past 5 weeks as well.
I've been too busy to rest - work and responsibilities have still been calling my name nonstop so I've been comforting myself with snacking.  Want to know my favorite cookie??
You can either thank me or curse me later - these are, hands down, the most addictive cookies I've had in years.  The bad thing is that everyone in the family loves them (I buy two bags at a time) but the good thing is that they eat them so quickly that I can't eat too many myself!  Stay healthy!!

make a new ending. . .

After lots of nice advice from this post, I decided to try my hand at lettering again and am pretty pleased with the attempt even though many of the words look as wobbly as a drunken sailor on shore leave.  My theory is that once the princess and her wonky stars were added the wobbly letters look more like an "artistic choice" than "making the best of pitiful lettering".  What do you think??

Deodorant Girl. . .

Watercolored girl - she looks embarrassed that her mom called her out on her grooming.  As a mom of two boys I am so glad that we've finally reached the place where they both bathe on their own without prompting from me.  Now if only they would make their beds. . .

IF - Nefarious

I haven't played along with an Illustration Friday topic in ages but couldn't resist trying my interpretation of NEFARIOUS.  The girls that inhabit my little blog are far from evil so I thought I'd draw one with a Snidely Whiplash mustache for that little fiendish touch.
My husband said that she is one of his favorites so I'm wondering if I should stop plucking??

The grass is green where you water it.

I'm thinking this would look so much better if I had some mad lettering skills - doncha think?  Since my career as a calligrapher isn't going to start anytime soon I am wondering. . .do you have any tips for adding wording to your pages?  I regularly use letter stickers and print out sayings that get cut/glued onto my pages but if you have any other ideas I'd love to hear them!!

Bird Brain -

She laughed when the bluebird of happiness landed on her noggin - maybe this will be a good year after all. . .
Got a new Strathmore soft cover art journal with "toned tan" pages in it!  It's rather small - 5.5" x 8" and I am envisioning lots of inky drawings in it over 2015.

Anyone up for fish??

It is January now and often people decide to eat healthier at the beginning of a new year so I thought I'd assist you with a delicious recipe from 1971 featuring fish.  You are so welcome!!
"A whisper of curry and a dash of ginger give distinction to this economical luncheon casserole."
Does that seductive food talk make you want to rush out and buy some frozen peas to be able to make this "casserole"?
While the recipe calls for different aquatic wildlife I'm going to use my stunted salmon/rainbow trout fish.
