Illustration Friday - SWIM

"Dead fish do not SWIM around in jealous tides" - Scott Weiland
Watching videos from the Misty Mawn Portrait class - Face to Face with Mixed Media sparked some oil pastel play.  The theme SWIM comes from Illustration Friday and the cool fish came from The Graphics Fairy.  The great thing about the oils is that you can wipe off something if you don't like it - try that with acrylics - they don't budge.  However, when you are done you have quite a sticky page.
The background is pretty junk paper that has been painted with Carla Sonheim's Abstracted Flowers Tutorial for Kristin Dudish's Tutorial Tryouts.

Your page looks fabulous Michelle. I love the background and especially love the part where the fish takes on the shape of her eye... Yes. Beautiful journal page. xox

I love your very clever use of the tinge of green on the face. Green and Jealousy go well together! I love your page!

Oooh - I loooove the way you tried the tutorial on a "junk paper" background - the results are beautiful. You've totally made it your own! Really, the whole page is just fantastic (and fun)!

It is so exciting to see how different everyone's results are for the same tutorial... Very, very cool!

I like the rich layered background "pretty junk paper" in all it's complexity. I love the strong modelling of forms of the face in the portrait.
Thank you for being part of Mandarin Orange Monday:)

I love how you used your junk paper, I decided not to do that class, and then lately I have seen a lot of people raving about it, I am getting more and more tempted!! :)
